Goats are being hired to do the work of men in a neighborhood just outside of San Diego. The fires that occurred in Hill borough four years ago destroyed thirty homes, most of which have been  rebuilt. While contractors were rebuilding the homes, nature was reproving the grasses, bushes, and shrubs. The area is now so overgrown in brush that it again poses a major fire hazard.

The city council asked f or bids to remove he b t rush. The lowest bid they received was $50,000. And that was if the city provided breakfast and lunch for the work crews for the six weeks it would take to clear the overgrown area. The city countered, offering unlimited coffee (black only) and a doughnut a day for each crew member. When that offer was rejected, the city asked for help on  its website.

A sheepherder in Montana and a goat herder in San Bernardino  read about the city's plight while surfing the web on their laptops They both offered to do the job for $25,000. The council chose J the goat herder because he lived closer. When told that the city dump was overflowing, the goat herder said, "No problem. My goats

will eat everything in your dump. Except for the automobile  engines, of course." So, for another $5,000, the city killed two birds with one stone. If all goes well, they will invite the goat herder and his "family" back every three years. The I goat herder said he will probably visit San Diego while his goats are I just in the dump. I want to take one of those hang-glider rides. I just  hope we don't crash. My goats would miss me a lot," he said.

Facebook, the world’s biggest social networking site, is celebrating its fifth birthday. In a blog post, the site’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, states that Facebook will continue to work as hard as it has in the last five years in order to stay the web’s number one communication site.

The company started in a dorm room in 2004. Today it has 150 million active users, more than the 130 million of rival MySpace.

Facebook is different from other social networking sites because you can communicate with people you really know and trust. Before, most people didn’t want to share their real identities online. Facebook has given people a safe and trusted environment for people to interact online. It has changed the way people view the world. A friend from any country is only a few clicks away.

It was back in February 2004 when Zuckerberg started “The facebook” from a Harvard student’s room. The aim was to help students get in touch with each other over the Internet. Within 24 hours over a thousand students had signed up and soon after that the network spread out to other universities.

By 2005 a research study showed that about 85% of the students in the network had a Facebook account. Another survey showed that Facebook was almost as important as an iPod.

At the end of 2005 Facebook came to the U.K. and up to today the site has been translated into 35 languages.

Five years after its start Facebook has escaped the universities and colleges. More than half of its users are not at college anymore and the fastest growing group are the 30 to 40 year olds. Every day 15 million users update their profiles to tell their friends and the world what’s happening to them. They also share photos, upload videos, chat, make friends, join groups – and simply have fun.

Aesop

One day the Hare laughed at the short feet and slow speed of the Tortoise. The Tortoise replied:

"You may be as fast as the wind, but I will beat you in a race!"

The Hare thought this idea was impossible and he agreed to the proposal. It was agreed that the Fox should choose the course and decide the end.

The day for the race came, and the Tortoise and Hare started together.

The Tortoise never stopped for a moment, walking slowly but steadily, right to the end of the course. The Hare ran fast and stopped to lie down for a rest. But he fell fast asleep. Eventually, he woke up and ran as fast as he could. But when he reached the end, he saw the Tortoise there already, sleeping comfortably after her effort.

Aesop

A grasshopper spent the summer hopping about in the sun and singing to his heart's content. One day, an ant went hurrying by, looking very hot and weary.

"Why are you working on such a lovely day?" said the grasshopper.

"I'm collecting food for the winter," said the ant, "and I suggest you do the same." And off she went, helping the other ants to carry food to their store. The grasshopper carried on hopping and singing. When winter came the ground was covered with snow. The grasshopper had no food and was hungry. So he went to the ants and asked for food.

"What did you do all summer when we were working to collect our food?" said one of the ants.

"I was busy hopping and singing," said the grasshopper.

"Well," said the ant, "if you hop and sing all summer, and do no work, then you must starve in the winter."

A 24-year-old Los Angeles man was taken to a hospital and then to county jail after leading police on a one-hour freeway chase in a

stolen SUV. The chase ended in downtown Los Angeles in front of the Spring Hotel. Most of the chase was uneventful, except for an  empty bottle of whiskey that the driver threw at one police  vehicle.

When the driver got into downtown, things started to happen. He  ran over a fire hydrant. The water spewed out of the hydrant, causing a geyser that ruined all the books in several carts that a vendor had put outside to attract customers into his bookstore The driver hurriedly turned west onto Grand Avenue and managed to bang into three parked cars on one side of that street and two cars on the other side The driver also tried to run over a police officer, who was standing in the crosswalk ordering him to halt.

Turning north, the driver caused a bus to slam on its brakes to avoid a collision. The bus was empty, and the bus driver was  uninjured. However, two police cars that were pursuing the SUV from different directions were not so lucky. One of them ran into the front of the bus, and the other into the back. Because the drivers had braked early enough, the damage to their cars was minor. Both officers resumed the chase.

They only went two blocks north to find that the SUV had come to a full stop because it had plowed into a newspaper stand. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was slumped behind the  steering wheel. The proprietor of the newsstand was yelling at the  driver and shaking a magazine at him. The police called for the ambulance. They charged the driver with failure to yield to a police officer and driving under the influence.

When Frank and I stepped through the post office doors, there was a crowd gathered, gawking at the new fixture on the wall like a chorus of wide-mouthed frogs. I had to get closer, and that was where being a girl that's scrawnier than a wire fence came in handy. Fortunately, Frank, my twin of eleven years, was just the same.

"Come on." I said, grabbing his hand, and we slid through the cracks between people until we spilled out in front.

Finally I got a good look. It was fixed to the plaster next to the postmaster's window, the place of honor usually reserved for the Wanted posters. Beady-eyed Zedekiah Smith, the bank robber, still hung there, but even he had been pushed aside for something more important.

A telephone. The first one in town.

"How's it work?" Noah Crawford called out. Noah's the best fix-it man around, and I could tell he was itching to get his fingers on those shiny knobs.

"Don't rightly know," answered the postmaster, and he tugged at his goatee as if it might tell him. "I do know the sound of your voice moves along wires strung on poles. It's sort of like the telegraph, only you hear words instead of dots and dashes."

"Ah," the crowd murmured, and I felt my own mouth move along.

I gazed at that gleaming wood box and something happened inside me. Something — I can only guess — that might be like falling in love. The thought of talking into that box — of making my voice sail through wires in the sky — it took over my brain. I couldn't get it out.

"Frank," I whispered to my twin. "I have to use that telephone."

Five minutes later, Frank towed me up Main Street, toward home. "Liza — " he began, but I cut him off. We two thought so much alike, I had Frank's questions answered before he even asked.

"You're right," I said. "It costs five cents and I don't have it. But look." I pulled him over to the window of Poulson's Variety Store. "You see those?"

I pointed to a handful of shimmery rocks spread on black velvet. Some were a shiny gray shot through with gold streaks, others yellow as cheese curds. And one, clear and jagged, sat like an icicle, leftover from wintertime.

Frank's eyebrows screwed up and I could tell he wasn't following.

"If I found one of those, I bet they'd pay me for it." I explained.

With a shake of his head, Frank hooked two thumbs under his suspenders. "But Liza — "

I held up a hand — he couldn't tell me anything I didn't already know. "I've got that figured, too. I'll bet we could find some at North Creek — in the mine."

Frank shrugged, pretending not to care, but I knew better. He wanted to explore that old mine, same as me. Besides, Frank knew he had no choice. Twins stick together, especially scrawny ones, ‘cause it takes two of us to make one of most people.

We spent half the morning on the dusty road to

The owner of a missing cat is asking for help. "My baby has been, missing for over a month now, and I want him back so badly, ft said Mrs. Brown, a 56-year-old woman. Mrs. Brown lives by herself in a trailer park near Clovis. She said that Clyde, her 7-year-old cat, didn't come home f or dinner more than a month ago. The next morning he didn't appear for breakfast either. After Clyde missed an extra-special lunch, she called the police.

When the policeman asked her to describe Clyde, she told him that Clyde had beautiful green eyes, had all his teeth but was missing half of his left ear, and was seven years old and completely white

She then told the officer that Clyde was about a foot high.

A bell went off. "Is Clyde your child or your pet?" the officer suspiciously asked. "Well, he's my cat, of course," Mrs. Brown  replied. "Lady, you're supposed to report missing PERSONS, not  missing CATS," said the irritated policeman. "Well, who can I  report this to?" she asked. "You can't. You have to ask around your neighborhood or put up flyers," replied the officer.

Mrs. Brown figured that a billboard would work a lot better than an 8"x11" piece of paper on a telephone pole. There was an empty  billboard at the end of her street just off the interstate highway. The billboard had a phone number on it. She called that number, and they told her they could blow up a picture of Clyde (from Mrs. J Brown's family album) and put it on the billboard for all to see.

"But how can people see it when they whiz by on the interstate?" she asked. "Oh, don't worry, ma'am, they only whiz by between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. The rest of the day, the interstate is so full of

commuters that no one moves." They told her it would cost only $3,000 a month. So she took most of the money out of her savings account and rented the billboard for a month.

The month has passed, but Clyde has not appeared. Because she has almost no money in savings, Mrs. Brown called the local  newspaper to see if anyone could help her rent the billboard for  just one more month. She is waiting but, so far, no one has stepped  forward.

Nancy was new to America. She came to America speaking only her native language. She brought her 8-year-old son with her. He was all she had in the world.

They found an apartment in Arcadia. They were there for only two months when a neighbor’s dog jumped over the fence. The dog ran toward Nancy’s son. Nancy put her body in between the dog and her son. The dog stopped when it saw Nancy screaming at it. She was going to punch it in the nose. The dog turned around.

Shaking, Nancy took her son upstairs. They stayed in the apartment all weekend. Then Nancy found another apartment, close to the school that her son was going to attend.

She and her son walked everywhere. One day her son started coughing badly. He had an asthma attack. All the walking was making his asthma worse.

Nancy knew that she had to buy a car. So she called up the Honda dealer. She talked to a salesman who spoke her language. She told him that she wanted to buy a new car if he could come over to pick her up. The salesman said he would be right over.

Bill wrote this letter to Mary:

We’ve talked on the phone and in my apartment, and now I'm writing this letter. Maybe if I put my thoughts and feelings in writing, you’ll understand them better.

I love you. I want to marry you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. You are the most wonderful woman I have ever met. You are not a "load." You are not a "troublemaker."

Yes, you have problems. So do I. And together, we can solve these problems more easily than if we were apart. Problems are a part of life. But so is happiness. Let’s share our problems and happiness instead of experiencing them alone.

We are not a bad "fit." We are a perfect match. I do not look down on you. I look up to you. I admire you. I think you are smart, brave, and independent. Don’t tell me to go find another woman. I don’t want another woman. I have found the perfect woman.

Every day, I think about your beautiful smile, your happy laugh. I think about the long walks we used to take, holding hands all the way. Remember how we used to sit on the grass in the park and watch the parrots?

We were going to get married, and now you want to be "just friends." Whatever I did or said that was wrong, please tell me so we can work this out. I don’t want to lose you

Will U Come Here And Make UR Darling Daughter Eat Her Food?

Farnoosh Tossed The Paper Away And Rushed To The Scene.

My Only Daughter, Ava Looked Frightened; Tears Were Welling Up In Her Eyes.

In Front Of Her Was A Bowl Filled To its Brim With Curd Rice.

Ava is A Nice Child, Very Intelligent For Her Age.

I Cleared My Throat And Picked Up The Bowl. 'Ava, Darling, Why Don't U Take A Few Mouthful
Of This Curd Rice?

Just For Dad's Sake, Dear'.
Ava Softened A Bit And Wiped Her Tears With The Back Of Her Hands.

'Ok, Dad. I Will Eat - Not Just A Few Mouthfuls,But The Whole Lot Of This.

But, U should....' Ava Hesitated.

'Dad, if I Eat This Entire Curd Rice, Will U Give Me Whatever I Ask For?'

'
Promise'. I Covered The Pink Soft Hand Extended By My Daughter With Mine, And Clinched The Deal.

Now I Became A Bit Anxious
'
Ava, Dear, U Shouldn't Insist On Getting A Computer Or Any Such Expensive Items.

Dad Does Not Have That kind of Money Right now. Ok?'

'No, Dad.  I Do Not Want Anything Expensive'.
Slowly And Painfully,She Finished Eating The Whole Quantity.

I Was Silently Angry With My Wife And My Mother For Forcing My Child To Eat Something That She Detested.

After The Ordeal Was Through, Ava Came To Me With Her Eyes Wide With Expectation.

All Our Attention Was On Her
'
Dad, I Want To Have My Head Shaved Off, This Sunday!'

Was Her Demand..
'
Atrocious!' Shouted My Wife, 'A Girl Child Having Her Head Shaved Off
Impossible!'
'
Never in Our Family!'
My Mother Rasped
'
She Has Been Watching Too Much Of Television.  Our Culture is Getting Totally Spoiled With These TV Programs!'

'
Ava, Darling, Why Don't U Ask For Something Else? We Will Be Sad Seeing U With A Clean-Shaven Head.'

'Please, Ava, Why Don't U Try To Understand Our Feelings?'

I Tried To Plead With Her
'
Dad, U Saw How Difficult It Was For Me To Eat That Curd Rice'.

Ava Was in Tears
'
And U Promised To Grant Me Whatever I Ask For. Now,U Are Going Back On UR Words.

It Was Time For Me To Call The Shots
'
Our Promise Must Be Kept.'

'
Are U Out Of UR Mind?' Chorused My Mother And Wife.

'No. If We Go Back On Our Promises She Will Never Learn To Honour Her Own.

Ava, UR wish Will B Fulfilled.'

With Her Head Clean-Shaven, Ava Had A Round-Face, And Her Eyes Looked Big And Beautiful.

On Monday Morning, I Dropped Her At Her School
It Was A Sight To Watch My Hairless Ava Walking Towards Her Classroom..
She Turned Around And Waved. I Waved Back With A Smile.

Just Then, A Boy Alighted From A Car, And Shouted
'
Ava, Please Wait For Me!'

What Struck Me Was The Hairless Head Of That Boy
'
May Be, That Is The in-Stuff', I Thought.

'Sir, UR Daughter Ava is Great indeed!'
Without introducing Herself, A Lady Got Out Of The Car
And Continued, 'That Boy Who is Walking Along With Ur Daughter is My Son Bomi.

He is Suffering From... Leukemia'.
She Paused To Muffle Her Sobs
'
Harish Could Not Attend The School For The Whole Of The Last Month
He Lost All His Hair Due To The Side Effects Of The Chemotherapy.

He Refused To Come Back To School Fearing The Unintentional But Cruel Teasing Of The Schoolmates.

Ava Visited Him Last Week, And Promised Him That She Will Take Care Of The Teasing Issue
But, I Never Imagined She Would Sacrifice Her Lovely Hair For The Sake Of My Son !!!!!

Sir, You And Your Wife Are Blessed To Have Such A Noble Soul As Your Daughter.'

I Stood Transfixed And Then, I Wept
'
My Little Angel, You Are Teaching Me How Selfless Real Love Is..........

"
The Happiest People On This Planet Are Not Those Who Live On Their Own Terms
But Are Those Who Change Their Terms For The Ones Whom They Love !!"

Think About This

Goats are being hired to do the work of men in a neighborhood justoutside of San Diego.

Donna loved her husband. Her husband loved Donna. They were in love with each other. She wanted to give him a birthday present. He was going to be 40 years old next week. She wondered what to give him. Should she give him a watch? Should she give him a sweater? Should she give him a new guitar? What should she give him? She asked him what he wanted for his birthday. He said he didn't want anything for his birthday. "Oh, you must want something!" she said. "You're right," he said. "I want your love forever."
